This museum gives a fascinating insight into the mysterious world of pharmacy with its pill boxes, chopping knives and containers for botanical specimens. Two statues from around 1680 depicting Cosmasand Damian as the patron saints of doctors and pharmacists standguard in the vaulted cellars used today by the Adler chemists shop. The oldest pharmacy in Westphalia (since 1392) consists of a shop, storage and work rooms as well as a tea storage chamber and a laboratory.

Behind glass are exhibited some early forms of Viagra and a tonic of arsenic syrup to strengthen the body. During the guided tour visitors can find out how pills were rolled and suppositories shaped. And when, at the end of the tour you are walking through the modern part of the chemist's shop, you can see at first hand the changes that have occurred within the pharmaceutical industry.

This is a fantastic museum. Very interesting to see how things were done back then. We also liked the plague mask! I\\\'m sure if we went through it again we\\\'d discover even more. Well worth a visit and the location is easy to get to since it is in the city centre. Cheers Sabine Wasser
